Namib Sky Balloon Safaris

Namib Sky Balloon Safaris operates in an exclusive concession on Sossusvlei in the Namib Naukluft National Park and NamibRand Nature Reserve.

Soar with the winds for an hour over the ocean of sand and mountains, endless vista of shadow and light. After landing, your dream is not over. In the middle of nowhere, you come back to earth with an "Out of Africa" Champagne Breakfast.

A memorable Flight Certificate is presented before your nature drive back to your lodge.

Departure:

Half an hour before sunrise, we collect our passengers from:

Le Mirage
Kulala Desert Lodge
Sossusvlei Lodge
Sesriem Gate (for Sesriem campsite and Sossus Dune Lodge)
Sossusvlei Desert Lodge on Namib Rand Reserve

If you overnight somewhere else, please enquire at your lodge in order to reach one of the above meeting points on time. Passengers will be back approximately 3 to 4 hours later.

If you have a tight schedule, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Clothing:

Casual, hat recommended. During ascent, a pullover is advisable, as the mornings can be chilly in the desert. Once the balloon takes off, the burner above you will warm you nicely. In summer, a hat or a cap is necessary.

Please do not overload the basket with unnecessary items; the balloon is very sensitive to the weight. You will just need your camera!

Safety:

Our passenger’s safety is our priority. Our pilots are all highly qualified and holders of commercial licences. We have a 100% safety record with over 50 000 passengers flown over the last 20 years.

Ballooning is like a magic carpet. While you fly, you do not feel any turbulence as you go at the wind speed. The tranquility of your flight will give you plenty photographic opportunities and an unsurpassed view of the Namib Desert. The pilot controls perfectly his altitude- but has no steering wheel. He will control his direction choosing the wind channels he will find at different levels. As we have an exclusive concession into the National Park, this allows us to take you to the most unspoiled areas not accessible to the public. The ground crew has permanent radio contact with the pilot, and follows the balloon until landing where an Out of Africa Champagne breakfast is served.

Believe it or not, people are not affected by vertigo in a Hot Air Balloon!

Children under 6 years are not permitted in the balloon unless they are taller than 1m20 to be able to look over the basket. An adult should accompany a child less than 16 years old. Smaller children can follow the balloon with our ground crew chase vehicle and re-join their family at the Champagne breakfast after landing.
